Monopole gravitational waves from relativistic fireballs driving gamma-ray bursts

چکیده
Einstein’s General Relativity predicts that pressure, in general stresses, play a similar role to energy density, ǫ = ρc (with ρ being corresponding mass density), in generating gravity. The source of gravitational field, the active gravitational mass density, sometimes referred to as Whittaker’s mass density, is ρgrav = ρ + 3p/c , where p is pressure in the case of an ideal fluid. Whittaker’s mass is not conserved, hence its changes can propagate as monopole gravitational waves. Such waves can be generated only by astrophysical sources with varying gravitational mass. Here we show that relativistic fireballs, considered in modelling gamma-ray burst phenomena, are likely to radiate monopole gravitational waves from high-pressure plasma with varying Whittaker’s mass. Also, ejection of a significant amount of initial mass-energy of the progenitor contributes to the monopole gravitational radiation. We identify monopole waves with h + h waves of Eddington’s classification which propagate (in the z-direction) together with the energy carried by massless fields. We show that the monopole waves satisfy Einstein’s equations, with a common stress-energy tensor for massless fields. The polarization mode of monopole waves is Φ22, i.e. these are perpendicular waves which induce changes of the radius of a circle of test particles only (breathing mode). The astrophysical importance of monopole gravitational waves is discussed.

Gamma-Ray Bursts: Super-Explosions in the Universe and Related High-Energy Phenomena
The recent progress in studies of gamma-ray bursts, their afterglows, and host galaxies is discussed. The emphasis is given to high-energy phenomena associated with gamma-ray burst explosions: high-energy cosmic rays, neutrinos, gravitational waves. We also show how the relativistic fireball model for GRBs can be used to constrain modern theories of large and infinite extra-dimensions. In parti...
متن کاملCan Fireball or Firecone Models Explain Gamma Ray Bursts?
The observed afterglows of gamma ray bursts (GRBs), in particular that of GRB 970228 six months later, seem to rule out relativistic fireballs and relativistic firecones driven by merger or accretion induced collapse of compact stellar objects in galaxies as the origin of GRBs. GRBs can be produced by superluminal jets from such events.
متن کاملPrompt Neutrino Emission from Gamma-Ray Bursts
Recent observations show that some or possibly all long-duration gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) arise from the core collapse of massive stars. In this case, the GRB environments are believed to be preburst stellar winds. We here study prompt neutrino emission from reverse shocks as a result of the interaction of relativistic fireballs with their surrounding wind matter. We find that for reasonable par...
متن کاملGravitational and magnetosonic waves in gamma - ray
One of the possible sources of gamma-ray bursts (grbs) are merging, compact neutronstar binaries. More than 90% of the binding energy of such a binary is released in the form of gravitational waves (gws) in the last few seconds of the spiral-in phase before the formation of a black hole. In this article we investigate whether a fraction of this gw energy is transferred to magnetohydrodynamic wa...
متن کاملSwift Pointing and the Association Between Gamma-Ray Bursts and Gravitational-Wave Bursts
The currently accepted model for gamma-ray burst phenomena involves the violent formation of a rapidly rotating solar mass black hole. Gravitational waves should be associated with the black-hole formation, and their detection would permit this model to be tested, the black hole progenitor (e.g., coalescing binary or collapsing stellar core) identified, and the origin of the gamma rays (within ...
